Calisthenic association of south australia.

Calisthenics is uniquely an Australian sport that encourages the thrill of performing and commitment to teamwork. Offering participants the opportunity to be a part of a supportive team environment, as well as having the chance to grace the stage individually.

Calisthenics offers a variety of aspects from elements of dance and gymnastics to classical ballet movements, singing and dancing, acrobatics, sportsmanship and teamwork, and the chance to develop lifelong friendships. Our sport creates confidence and commitment in our members that can also be translated into their everyday lives. 

The Calisthenic Association of South Australia welcomes participants at all ages starting from 3+ years old with accredited coaches for every level.

Windsor Calisthenics

Windsor Calisthenics Club is a North-Eastern community, non-profit sporting club, supported by dedicated Coaches, assistants, parents and of course, the Windsor team members.

Windsor Calisthenics Club offers participants the opportunity to learn calisthenics techniques and skills whilst developing confidence, commitment, coordination, flexibility, discipline, fitness and friendships, all within a safe and fun environment.

With Calisthenics Competitions held twice a year, the Windsor Calisthenics Club is dedicated to achieving successful outcomes.  Additionally, Windsor Calisthenics Club supports and encourages individuals to participate in Solo, Duo and Graceful Girls.

Windsor Calisthenics Club welcomes all new members.

Whydale Calisthenics & Dance

Calisthenics has been a part of the Whyalla Community since 1951.  Whydale is a committee-run club and was formed in 1998 with the amalgamation of the Whyalla and West Whyalla Calisthenic Clubs.

There are approximately 45 clubs in South Australia, ranging from Championship division, down to Division 5.  Whydale first began competing as Division 4, and have progressed to having all teams in Div 2 at present.

We are very proud of our Club, and of our students and coaches who show endless commitment from regular practices and training, as well as travelling over 4 hours each way to compete in our wonderful sport.

Waratah Calisthenics College

Waratah Calisthenics College is based at Athelstone Uniting Church Hall.  We cater for students of all ages and abilities and encourage girls who are new to dancing to come and give it a try! Other than Tinies, who only participate in the annual demonstration, all other teams compete in 2 competitions throughout the year along with everyone at our annual end of year concert.

Our AIM is to encourage all members to enjoy the sport of calisthenics as well as achieving the best for themselves as well as the team.

Tonique Studio

Tonique Studio Inc. is a Mount Gambier based Calisthenics and Dance club located at Glenburnie Racecourse. The studio was founded in 2014 by principal coaches Tonya Allison & Monique Gentile.

Established in 2015, Tonique Studio is is a not for profit club, specialising in Calisthenics, dance, acro, jazz, singing and flex all in one class! The club also teaches Hip Hop classes. We offer both competition and fun classes at all ages.

Seaview Calisthenics College

Seaview Calisthenics College was established in 1946 and is one of the longest running calisthenics clubs in South Australia. We are a small and friendly club. Our experienced coaches provide calisthenics team and solo classes for participants of all abilities and ages from 3 years to 60 years plus.

Come and Try two classes at no charge and see what fun, fitness and friendship Calisthenics has to offer.

Seaton Calisthenics Club

Seaton Calisthenics Club, located in the western suburbs of Adelaide, was established in 1951 and maintains a successful reputation within the Calisthenics Association of South Australia (CASA). Calisthenics fosters confidence, discipline and teamwork whilst providing deportment, exercise, flexibility, coordination and strength for girls of all ages and capabilities.

Our dedicated team of coaches is committed to the ongoing development of both the girls and the club. Age Groups Calisthenics classes are divided into groups according to age. This allows the girls to develop their skills and friendships with others of a similar age. Seaton Calisthenics Club caters for girls in all age groups ensuring continuity for each girl.

Seaford Calisthenics Club

Seaford Calisthenics Club is a “coach run” club in the Seaford area for nearly 40 years.

We have highly qualified coaches who are fully accredited with the Calisthenics Association of South Australia (CASA) and enthusiastic about teaching all aspects of calisthenics. Lessons are held at Seaford Primary School, Moana Primary School and Moana Pioneer Hall. Participants will make long lasting friendships while having fun, learning co-ordination and improving their confidence, fitness and flexibility.

Seacliff Calisthenics

Our club has been successfully running for over 60 years and is a competitive, non-profit organisation run by volunteers with a love of the sport of Calisthenics. We rely on our volunteers for the smooth running of the club.

At Seacliff Calisthenics, we aim to provide a safe, inclusive, friendly atmosphere where all members (and their families) may make new and lasting friendships, gain self-confidence, while learning both personal and team calisthenics skills.

Ridgehaven Calisthenics

We are a successful “teacher run” calisthenics club which has been holding lessons in Modbury since 1968. We encourage the development of fitness, grace, endurance, teamwork and discipline in an energetic, creative and friendly environment.

A supportive group of dedicated instructors, assistants and parents support the Club, designing and creating the colourful routines and costumes, constructing scenery props when required, and helping us to enter and win many of the inter-club competitions.

Reynella-Braeview School of Calisthenics

Reynella Braeview School of Calisthenics is a large, successful club with classes held in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. Our lessons are predominantly held at the Reynella East College and most of our members are from the surrounding areas including Reynella, Happy Valley, Woodcroft, Aberfoyle Park, Chandlers Hill and Morphett Vale. However, we welcome and encourage people from any area to join.

We are one of the highest achieving clubs in South Australia with all of our teams currently competing in either Championship Division or Division 1 and achieving great results.

Plympton Halifax Calisthenics Club

Plympton Halifax is a Calisthenics Club located in the western suburbs of Adelaide providing quality coaching in calisthenics for participants aged 3 and over.

Calisthenics is FUN, FITNESS and FRIENDSHIPS. It combines Dance, Gymnastics, Singing, Marching and Acting. Apparatus (clubs and rods) are introduced as the participants get older. Para Vista Calisthenics

Para Vista Calisthenics is a not for profit, committee run club operating since 1981. For more information, or to try our classes please contact us below.

Para Vista Calisthenics School Inc began in 1981, and is competitive at local and state levels. Throughout the year teams learn routines and perform them on stage in competitions and at our Annual Concert in December.

Calisthenics is an artistic sport and is uniquely Australian. It encourages physical development, strength, flexibility and coordination, through a combination of controlled exercises and gymnastics.

Calisthenics can also be seen as an art as it develops an appreciation of music and rhythm through dance, ballet, marching, club swinging, rod twisting, singing, national folk dancing and the beauty of graceful dancing. All performances are set to various styles of music.

Children from the ages of 2 years up enjoy and develop skills through the challenges offered, with the opportunity and excitement of performing on stage. Calisthenics is a fun and rewarding sport for all ages; promotes confidence and also fosters relationships and a spirit of teamwork amongst members who can make lifelong friendships.

Para Vista Calisthenics prides itself on ensuring all students appear on stage and enable parents and grandparents to be as involved as they choose.

Northern Vixens – Masters Only

Northern Vixens is a Masters Calisthenics Team based in the northern suburbs of Adelaide.

Krymzon Academy of Calisthenics

Krymzon Academy of Calisthenics prides itself on being a friendly, family orientated Calisthenics club. At Krymzon your child will gain many valuable attributes including friendship, confidence, coordination, poise and fitness.

Naracoorte Calisthenics

Naracoorte Calisthenics Club has students ranging Tinies through to Senior ages that learn and perform routines such as Figure March, Free Exercises, Club Swinging, Rods, Aesthetics, singing and modern dance. We have competitive teams that travel around to country competitions as well as fun classes that join in performing at the mid year and Christmas concerts.

Marden Calisthenics College

Marden Calisthenics College began in 1966. We are a very successful Championship club, with teams from Tinies to Masters.

In 2022 Marden was awarded the CASA perpetual trophy for the club with the highest points for the overall aggregate.

Largs North Calisthenics Club

Largs North Calisthenics Club encourages members of all ages to learn calisthenics and compete against other clubs within SA.

Largs North Calisthenics Club was established in 1956 and is a successful club in the Western suburbs. We are a fun and competitive club promoting physical and social development, team spirit and friendship amongst members.

Highbury Calisthenics

Established in 1982, Highbury Calisthenics has a long history of successfully competing in State and inter State Championships. Our club is based in the North Eastern suburbs of Adelaide, with lessons being held in Hope Valley.

We provide an inclusive, safe and fun environment encouraging members to build confidence, gain skills, improve fitness and make long lasting friendships.

While calisthenics is predominately a team-based sport, some of our members choose to participate in graceful girl, solo and duo competitions throughout the year. We have a number of coaches available to teach these private lessons (additional fees apply). We also run preparatory classes for the calisthenics pupil skills exams. These exams are run the by the Calisthenics Association of South Australia (CASA) and our preparatory classes teach members the calisthenics skills outlined in the exam syllabus.

Highbury Calisthenics is a not-for-profit organisation that is run by a dedicated committee.  All members are encouraged to have a say in the way the club operates.

Highbury Calisthenics complies with child safety regulations set by the government.

Innovation Calisthenics Club is based in the Adelaide Hills with training locations in the suburbs of Belair, Hawthorndene and Blackwood.

Gleneliz Calisthenics Club

Our club, Gleneliz, derives its name from “Glen”  (as in Glenys Anderson, who started the club 50 years ago) and “eliz” (from Elizabeth, the district where classes have been held since the club started). Currently our classes are held at the Elizabeth North Primary School.

Over the past 50 years our club has been represented by many of hundreds of students in National and State Teams, Police Tattoo Concerts, displays in shopping centres, nursing homes, school fetes etc. Additionally Gleneliz participate annually in the Playford and Salisbury Christmas Pageants. 

In 2021, Gleneliz celebrated its 60th year which is a huge milestone.

For many years, our club has run “The Gleneliz Best Type Solo, Duo and Graceful Competitions”, a three day event held in early November where competitors come from all over the state. This  event has always been very successful and is one of the largest local solo competitions in South Australia.

Ridgehaven Calisthenics

We are a successful “teacher run” calisthenics club which has been holding lessons in Modbury since 1968. We encourage the development of fitness, grace, endurance, teamwork and discipline in an energetic, creative and friendly environment.

Para Vista Calisthenics School Inc began in 1981, and is competitive at local and state levels. Throughout the year teams learn routines and perform them on stage in competitions and at our Annual Concert in December.

Reynella Braeview School of Calisthenics is a large, successful club with classes held in the southern suburbs of Adelaide. Our lessons are predominantly held at the Reynella East College and most of our members are from the surrounding areas including Reynella, Happy Valley, Woodcroft, Aberfoyle Park, Chandlers Hill and Morphett Vale. However, we welcome and encourage people from any area to join.

Brighton Calisthenics Club is one of SA’s most successful and oldest calisthenics clubs based in Brighton.

TEAM ITEMS

Listed are the items performed by Calisthenics club teams at the Team State Championship Competitions that are held annually. All items encourage members to improve their fitness, confidence, strength and flexibility as well as skills that are transferable into our members everyday lives.

All teams are taught by an accredited Coach who must undergo annual training to be qualified to teach. All coaches require a Level 1 Coaching Badge, First Aid Certificate and Working With Children clearance.

Core Items – Each year every team must complete the following items for the CASA State Championship Competitions.

Fancy Items – Each year a rotation is devised by CASA deciphering which Fancy Item must be choreographed to compete at the State Championship Competitions.

An arrangement of marching in complex patterning and formations, encouraging strong deportment, spatial awareness, uniformity and coordination.

Free Exercises

A routine incorporating flexibility and strength, strong deportment and core stability, balance, endurance and paired elements.

Club Swinging

Swinging of wooden clubs to create intricate swings performed in unison, encourages fine motor movements and hand eye coordination, deportment, multitasking and rhythm.

Rods

Manipulation of movement of a light weighted ‘rod’ to perform complex twists and flashes, encourages hand and eye coordination, advanced footwork, fine motor skills and precision.

Aesthetic

An arrangement of adapted classical movements, encouraging grace and poise with a sense of sincerity and emotional expression with the development of musical appreciation.

Rhythmical Aesthetic

A combination of elevated balletic movements, similar to Aesthetic with the development of musical appreciation, softness, storytelling and sincerity.

Singing with expressive movements developing listening skills, musical appreciation, vocals, confidence and acting abilities.
